Everyone that is disabled should have the opportunity to participate in any kind of sport that they dream of. Disabled Sports Eastern Sierra feels exactly the same way.
We believe the freedom and exhilaration of outdoor challenges changes lives. No one should be left behind simply because of a disability!
Disabled Sports Eastern Sierra is a not-for-profit organization that fulfills everyone’s dreams of gliding down a snow-covered mountainside or enjoying the summer out-of-doors
The Winter Program teaches skiing (Alpine and Nordic) and snowboarding to people of all disabilities. People with physical or cognitive disabilities are able to have fun and healthy experiences skiing in the beautiful Eastern Sierra.
The Summer Program teaches stand-up paddle boarding, fishing, kayaking, rock climbing, horseback riding, cycling, camping, hiking, environmental and other outdoor knowledge and skills, which allow students to enjoy the Eastern Sierra year-round.
They have specialized teaching methodologies to enable guests with special needs to learn and enjoy their skiing experiences in winter and their outdoors experiences in summer. Every lesson is one-on-one and customized for each individual.
If you live out west or are planning a trip to California, check them out to get outdoors and to have some fun. Look how gorgeous this is. We cannot wait to visit!

SECOND CHANCE STORE
Everyone deserves a second chance. That goes for things, too.
Better yet, things that can benefit people with special needs.
With just that idea in mind, Disabled Sports Eastern Sierra opened the Second Chance Thrift Store in Mammoth Lakes on October 14, 2009, thanks to the vision of Executive Director Kathy Copeland. “This has been a dream of mine,” she said. Copeland originally hails from Vermont and has lived in Mammoth since 1971. For the last seven years, she has hosted yard sales at her home with contributions from the community to benefit DSES.
But as overflow items began to accumulate, she realized a retail store could provide year-round benefits for the town and for people with special needs. The Second Chance Thrift Shop benefits Disabled Sports Eastern Sierra. All proceeds will support outdoor adventure, and the shop will allow our students to get valuable work experience as well.
Second Chance Thrift Shop is looking for a bright, cheerful, upbeat applicant, ready for front line retail with potential to grow. Must be fit and able to lift, have exceptional guest service skills, and desire to grow into leadership position. Wage DOE. Email resume and cover letter to firstname.lastname@example.org or fax to 760 934 2475.
